Today’s Groove-Along features my favorite instrument, the keyboard. I love incorporating this instrument into my music therapy sessions not only as an accompaniment instrument but as an instrument for improvisation and developing creativity. Watch as my husband, who ‘says’ he is not musically inclined, creates a “Black Note Improv” within the structure of the black notes on the keyboard and a little help from me with a simple Alberti Bass. Half way through he doesn’t even need my support as he takes the lead both melodically and rhythmically! This transition brings to mind the role we play as music therapists in supporting our clients towards the ultimate goal of independence. Hope you enjoy the video and happy weekend!

Thanks mom! =)
This is SO great! Improvisation intimidates me sometimes, but i forget how easy it is to make great music on the black keys! Hooray for the pentatonic scale! Thanks for sharing
Agreed Amy…When you have the structure of pentatonic, there are no wrong notes! =)
This is just too adorable
. Love it and I love the idea! My mom used to do this with me growing up and it really made me feel like I had a sense of control and the ability to create and feel creative!
