Why yes! In case you haven’t heard, the garfoose is a fire breathing, magically empowered, indestructible, wifi enabled, musically gifted, half giraffe-half moose. The garfoose’s creator, my amazing husband, bestowed this special and unique creature to me to promote my business and thus, the Groovy Garfoose was born (Est. 2009). The sole mission of The Groovy Garfoose is to empower and enrich children, teens & adults with special needs through music. Below are the groovy services I provide as well as a little bit more about myself:

Direct Music Therapy Services

Are available to both individuals and small groups in my studio. Weekly sessions are jam packed with creative and motivating music experiences designed to help client(s) improve in the areas of need as predetermined in an assessment in collaboration with parents/caregivers. Music therapy  experiences can target: fine motor functioning, communication, eye contact, self-awareness, cognitive functioning, attention to task, emotional expression and much more.

Contract Music Therapy Services

Are designed to meet the specific needs of your facility or organization. Contract services include but are not limited to: individual or group music therapy sessions, in-services, consultation, presentations, and hands-on music and wellness workshops. Contact me for more information about how music therapy can enhance your facility.

My Musical Bio

Born and raised in Ohio, I grew up in a very musical family.  I started singing and dancing to music as soon as I could talk and walk.  I began piano lessons at 8, clarinet at 10 and participated in a myriad of church and school choirs and bands from K-12.  When it came time for college, naturally, I chose to study Psychology and Music in hopes of figuring out some kind of job through which I could help people through my passion, music. It wasn’t until the Summer before my senior year of college that a neighbor told me about music therapy.  I was instantly hooked spending every minute I could researching music therapy jobs and shadowing music therapists. I went on to finish my Bachelor’s in Psychology at Clearwater Christian College in 2002 and started my music therapy equivalency degree at Ohio University that Fall. After cramming 8 quarters worth of credits into 5, I completed my coursework at OU in the Spring of 2004. From there, I had the privilege of working with four music therapist’s during my 6-month music therapy internship at University Hospitals of Cleveland. Upon completion of my internship, I passed the board exam and became a board certified music therapist in January of 2005. Since then I have focused primarily on my work with special needs populations, opened my own private practice and am now venturing into the blogosphere.
